| Ampersand™ Claybord™ is the ultimate multi-media panel. With ultra-smooth kaolin clay ground, Claybord™ is perfect for India, pigmented and alcohol inks, gouache, egg tempera, acrylics, airbrush, collage, photo transfers, pencil, casein and for mounting papers, prints and fabrics.
Claybord can also be used with oils, however, please note that oils will act differently on the absorbent clay surface of the panel as opposed to standard acrylic gesso ground. The oil paint will soak into the surface and dry to a matte finish. The clay ground also decreases the working time of oils (makes them dry faster).
The smooth finish and absorbency of the kaolin clay ground allows the use of an abrasive like oil-free steel wool or sandpaper to remove pigment without damaging the finish. Manipulate your image with scratchbord tools, hobby knives, razor blades, etching tools, sand paper, oil-free steel wool, and electric erasers. The kaolin clay ground is 7 to 10 dry-mils thick allowing for multiple cut-ins or erasers.
