Gamblin Ground is a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings. It is made from alkyd resin (to give it tooth), titanium dioxide (for opacity), and barium sulfate. This combination of ingredients makes Gamblin Ground stiffer and more flexible than acrylic gesso or traditional oil primers. Though it is recommended that 4 coats of acrylic gesso is applied to a canvas before use, with Gamblin Ground you only need to apply 2 coats.
